How to Create Your Own Website - Online - Free Trial
Overview
You can Create Your Own Website - Online - Free Trial with the services that we promote on this website.
When I say free, I mean free. A lot of sites advertise free websites, very few deliver.
RELAX
If this is your first experience at building a website, my advise is RELAX!! You're about to start on a journey that can be a lot of fun.
It's not like learning golf where everyone is watching your every mis-stroke. Right now, you're the only one watching.
You can't break the tool. If you mess up, you just go back and start over.
It's a lot like driving, The more you do it, the better you get.
Before You Start
Most first time website authors make the mistake of sitting down and cranking out web pages without doing the first bit of research or planning.
This is okay if you are just building a website for fun. If you are building your website for any serious purpose, here are some things you need to do before you start.
Keyword Research
Do not skip this step if you have any desire to get traffic to your website. Read: Keyword Research
Domain Name
Most people will tell you that you can't get ranked on a search engine using a free sub domain.
Search engines index everything these days. In my opinion, they index too much. You'll see free blogs all the time that get high positions in the SERPS.
You can use the free sub domain provided by 000WebHost and get a descent ranking, if you do your keyword research. You can also use a domain name that you've purchased somewhere else.
Note: I'm not sure that this option is presently available. I have not seen any account completions using an existing domain name in the last 30 days. I recommend using the subdomain option to sign up and then using the redirect function at your registrar.
The main reason to purchase a domain name these days is to give your website a more professional appearance. If you want to keep your website 100% free, then use your free sub domain.
Your Email Address
I'm amazed at the number of sign up failures we experience everyday because people either don't know their own email address or they are too careless to double check it when they sign up. Please pardon my bluntness, but if you aren't smart enough to type your own email address, you just don't have what it takes to build a website.
If you don't get the confirmation code to activate your account, it is because you didn't provide a valid email address. It could also mean that your email server is on a fraud list.
First Timers
I recommend using SiteReptile if this is your first website. Even if you decide to use a third party tool later on, you will get some valuable experience using this free tool.
For those who have never built a website, I'm going to briefly outline the process from sign up to installing and then editing your website.
- Fill out the sign up form at 000WebHost and be sure to provide a valid email address. You'll need to provide an email address so that you can receive your activation code.
- When you receive your activation code, click on it or paste it into your browser.
- When you click on your activation code you are taken to an activation page where you actually watch a countdown as your account is created. Stay on that page.
- When the countdown finishes you are sent to your Account Information Page. Copy the page and save it in a text file for future reference. You will not receive this page via email!!!!
- Note: The creation of your website is a 2 step process. You will use a builder to install it and then access an Admin Panel to edit it and build your actual web pages.
- To install your SiteReptile website go to builder.000webhost.com. Use the domain name, cpanel username and password provided on your Account Info Page to log in. See the screenshot tutorial Install Website for information on installing multiple templates.
- After you complete the installation process, you will log on to your SiteReptile Admin panel to actually build your website. Use your cpanel username and password. You can access your SiteReptile admin panel by appending /admin to your domain name. Ex. mysite.site88.com/admin
WWW
When using your subdomain url do not precede it with the www.. Most subdomain urls will fail 90% of the time when using the prefix.
cPanel
You can log on to your cPanel by appending /cpanel to your domain name. This is where you go to set up your email accounts.
cPanel is also where you access the Script Installer if you want to build your website using WordPress or one of the other free tools.
Use the Tutorials
Make use of the screenshot and flash tutorials on this website. There is very little information as far as help files within the SiteReptile builder itself.
It might be a good idea for beginners to skim through all of the tutorials before you even install your website.
Free Web Hosting
Even though I promote free web hosting, I DO NOT recommend it for any kind of a serious internet venture.
Free web hosting is a sub standard resource. It is great for fun sites and learning how to create websites.
If you are creating your own website for any serious reason, pay for your hosting.
We sell top of the line web hosting that includes everything for as little as $51/year at CaFW Web Hosting.
